As a State Certified General Appraiser in the Bedford branch office territory, you will be accountable for the accurate and timely completion of evaluations and appraisals of real and personal property in accordance with FCA, CoBank and Farm Credit East appraisal regulations and policies, and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). The appraiser is responsible for all aspects of the appraisal process including sales collection, analysis, and input, appraisal analysis, report writing, and accurately completing environmental inspection. Additional responsibilities include compilation of annual sales study, staff appraisal training, performance reviews of outside appraisals, peer appraisal review, and any other duties as assigned. You will work closely with other branch staff members and Farm Credit East customers, and effective communication skills are critical.

Area:  The branch is located in a suburban area, with urban amenities conveniently located nearby.  

Types of Agriculture: The branch's agriculture is diverse, including fruit, aquatic, timber, livestock, dairy, vegetable, greenhouse, nursery and specialty crops. Farm related businesses are also within Bedford’s target market.

The employee is accountable for the following:

  • Collateral and Fee Appraisal: Contribute to the protection of Association loan assets through the timely and accurate completion of appraisals and environmental inspections on all types of collateral, within Association policy and FCA regulations. Contribute to customer satisfaction and Association profitability through the professional, accurate, and timely completion of fee appraisal reports. Contribute to the effectiveness of the appraisal program by the successful completion of continuing education coursework required by the state(s) in which the employee is/will be General Certified.
  • Quality Control, Resource Information and Special Projects: Contribute to the maintenance of high quality appraisals and collateral administration through the objective and accurate review of appraisals and collateral documents prepared by Association and outside staff.  Provide effective and timely feedback, supervision, and training to Association collateral evaluators and appraisers based on experience. Contribute to a well-informed credit and appraisal staff by providing timely and accurate resource information (including benchmarks, market studies and sales databases), effective training, and by completing special projects as required.
  • Marketing: Increase business by means of promotional activities and superior customer service. Provide value to customers with appropriate and timely products and services.
  • Member Relations/Teamwork: Provide outstanding customer service (both internal and external) and deliver exceptional customer experience and value by setting, communicating and meeting customer expectations. Demonstrate a strong community commitment and professional presence that contributes to the overall positive image of the ACA. Act in a forthright and ethical manner, display a positive attitude and contribute positively to the overall morale of the team and association. Assist other team members and contribute to training.

Requirements This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Finance or a related field. If the successful candidate does not already have a state general appraisal certification, it must be obtained within 3 years of hire. This position requires the ability to travel throughout the branch and Farm Credit East territory as needed.
