About MBREA: A Tradition of Excellence, a Commitment to Innovation
Founded in 1934, the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers (MBREA) is steeped in tradition yet forward-thinking in its approach to serving the needs of today’s appraisers. Our leadership is comprised of both residential and general appraisers who serve on our Board of Trustees. This diversity in representation ensures that MBREA can address the evolving needs of a broad and varied membership base.

Member-Driven Leadership and Committees
The backbone of MBREA is our dedicated committees, which drive key areas such as education, meetings, membership, and professional designations. Through these committees, members have a voice in shaping the association’s priorities and initiatives, ensuring that we remain responsive to the profession's challenges and opportunities.

Education as a Cornerstone of Our Mission
At MBREA, the education of appraisal professionals is central to our mission. We provide a wide range of approved courses and seminars, recognized by appraisal boards across New England. Our instructors are seasoned professionals with extensive real-world experience and proven teaching skills. Whether you're just starting out or looking to expand your expertise, MBREA offers the high-quality education you need to stay ahead in your field.

National Leadership and Advocacy
MBREA was the first state appraisal association named a sponsor of The Appraisal Foundation and we continue our relationship as an initial Partner, a testament to our influence and commitment to the profession. Our members have played key roles in shaping the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and developing licensing qualifications.

Professional Designations: A Mark of Excellence
MBREA offers professional designations that signify a commitment to excellence and continued professional development. The RA (Residential Appraiser) designation and MRA (General/Commercial Appraiser) designation are respected marks of professionalism and expertise. Earning these designations sets appraisers apart, signaling to clients and colleagues a higher standard of practice. Detailed requirements for these designations can be found under the "Join MBREA" section of our website.
